Major Gifts Officer

Do you want your work to matter? Do you want to use your skills to make a difference, not just a living? Do you want to improve millions of lives, including your own?

Living Goods works to reinvent how we improve the lives of the under-served. We think big, but operate small and nimble. We train community health workers to bring life-saving products and healthcare to people’s doorsteps. Products like medicines, fortified foods, and modern contraceptives.

We also transform community health through mobile phones. We teach community health workers how to assess maternal and child health and treat common illnesses like pneumonia, malaria, malnutrition, and diarrhea. We also develop smart phone apps to guide community health worker visits and create predictive algorithms to make the best use of their time.  And we test new tools like paperless referrals to clinics and biosensors to monitor infant and child growth.

At Living Goods, you will have the chance to apply your ideas and creativity at work every day.  If you work well in a dynamic collaborative culture, set high standards, and meet challenges with determination and a sense of humor, you’ll thrive here at Living Goods.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Major Gifts Officer to expand our Major Gifts team at Living Goods. Our Major Gifts program is still a new revenue stream and while it has grown over the past year, we are investing more resources into this critical area to ensure we reach our 2021 fundraising goals and beyond.

Working closely with the current Major Gifts Officer, you will aid in further creating and leading a new major gifts program. You will play a key role in Living Goods’ efforts to develop, cultivate, steward, and retain a network of high net worth donors and prospects, collaborating with the Chief Development Officer, CEO and Founder. You will have exposure to some of the most thoughtful and forward-looking funders in global development, emerging markets, global health, and social enterprise.

This role is about more than just securing financial support—we are looking for an individual who will develop reciprocal, meaningful relationships and opportunities to maximize our growth. This means, for example, transforming the way we connect with our investors and curating strategic, meaningful experiences for them.

This is a tremendous opportunity to help an already successful organization grow to scale, while dramatically improving the health of millions of families.  This position can be based in San Francisco, New York City, or Washington D. C. and will require travel in the US and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and qualify a portfolio of individual and family foundation donors, each with the capacity to give $100,000+.
  • Work with the current MGO to further advance the major gifts strategy while building on process, pipeline and stewardship practices.
  • Identify new fundraising opportunities and work with the team to develop a significant pipeline of prospective donors.
  • Craft and execute individualized fundraising plans for each prospect and donor in your portfolio, including specific fundraising goals and a stewardship strategy.
  • Solicit funds from major donors and prospects, both independently and collaboratively with leadership.
  • Work with leadership and program teams to ensure that donors are appropriately engaged with our organization’s work. Collaborate with Communications and Country Teams to identify project information, including budgets, and create briefings, proposals, offers, asks, and reports tailored to each donor’s specific interests.
  • Work with Development Associate to track and maintain donor engagement efforts in Living Goods customer relationship management (CRM) system.
  • Plan small, targeted donor engagement events, such as Jeffersonian Dinners.
  • Serve as a representative for Living Goods to important internal and external constituents.

Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years of major donor fundraising experience that demonstrates you are a strategic, dynamic leader with a track record of successful asks from individual, family, and family foundation donors.
  • Proven experience in successfully cultivating individual prospects/donors, securing donations six-figure+, and effectively managing a portfolio of HNW individuals.
  • An existing network of six-figure prospects that gives internationally and/or to health organizations is preferred.
  • A track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Supremely organized, systems-thinker with an unwavering attention to detail.
  • Ability to use and maintain fundraising databases and experience with data reporting. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is desirable, but not required.
  • Experience in global health or international development is a big plus, as is on-the-ground experience in the regions where we work.
  • Ability and desire to travel within US and East Africa.
